Marilyn & Nathan {Hawthorne House Kansas City Wedding Photography}
Ever seen the movie 16 Dresses? The whole always a bridesmaid, never a bride thing? Marilyn was that girl (and by that girl I mean one amazing woman who surrounded herself with so many friends they all needed her to be a bridesmaid at their weddings). After eleven bridesmaid dresses, it was this role that landed Marilyn her very own white dress. Marilyn was a bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding, when she met Nathan, the brother and groomsman to the groom. She thought he had a girlfriend and he spent the entire weekend trying to talk to her. Nathan was stationed in Washington while Marilyn was finishing school in Kansas.

There is something to be said for keeping it small. A ceremony where everyone can sit in the front two rows of the Sanctuary. The intimacy of a reception where the entire party can sit at one table during dinner. The sweet simplicity of a day focused on two people coming together to start a new life.
Michelle and Ed wanted a small wedding focused on the importance of the ceremony. But when Ed’s two daughters found out that they were getting married,

Alisha and Wes just wanted a party for their New Year’s Eve Wedding in Kirksville, Missouri. A party celebrating the holiday that marks the end of a year and the start of something new and celebrating the union of one very special couple. That is exactly what they got.

You may have to give this post a minute to load. As hard as I tried I could not narrow down the photos to share. Emily and Peter’s Kansas City Wedding was brimming with heartfelt details, so much laughter, and an amazing group of people gathered to share in a very special day.
I honestly can’t tell you how Emily and Peter met. And I should be able to, but instead of taking notes as I normally do in a consultation, we were laughing. If there is one thing about these two together, its that they love to laugh. And we got so engrossed in talking about their wedding and laughing about how they got here to begin with (Peter is from England and Emily is from Kansas City), that I forgot to write to all it down.

There is an old saying that you are never too old for fairy tales. Actually I have no idea if that is true. But if there was, and there should be one, it would absolutely be true of Melissa and Jason. When Melissa first contacted me about photographing her wedding she told me that this was her happily ever after. When I got to sit down and meet both her and Jason, I realized how true that statement really was. I don’t think that anyone could have asked for a more beautiful day to begin this happily ever after.

I’m sure that waking up on your wedding day to a gloomy overcast sky is a total bummer for just about every bride (I should know, my wedding day was totally rained out). For a photographer, however, its a huge blessing. Those big puffy clouds are the perfect natural diffuser and the light outside is soft and even. Instead of running for the shade as we usually do, we can shoot anywhere with lovely lighting and amazing color. Katrina and Jay’s amazing wedding took place at the historic and gorgeous Belvoir Winery in Liberty, Missouri.

September is one of the most volatile months for a wedding. One day the air is crisp and warm and the next day overcast and chilly. My own September wedding was freezing and our backyard garden party had to sadly be moved indoors. Mandy and Keith were one of the lucky ones and they could not have asked for a more perfect day. The Loch Lloyd Country Club was the perfect setting for Mandy’s pink and cream garden wedding and their coordinator, Michelle, made sure that everything went smoothly. Sidelines Floral did an amazing job with the bouquet and with the table centerpieces. It was such a pleasure to spend the day with Keith and Mandy and to see such a wonderful couple start a new life together. Enjoy!

Maureen and Dallas could not have asked for a more beautiful day!!! When Maureen and I met to figure out the wedding day schedule we decided to start the day with a first look. For those of you trying to plan your own wedding day, I would seriously recommend considering a first look. We hide the groom and let the bride sneak up on him. Then I get the chance to photograph that first moment when a groom sees his beautiful bride in her dress for the first time. The reactions are always priceless. The extra benefit of a first look is that it allows us to get all of the formal photographs taken before the wedding.

You may recognize Jenn and Andrew from their engagement session a couple of months ago. As delightful as it was to explore the city with this wonderful couple, then I can’t wait to bring you more of the true Kansas City for their beautiful wedding day. After a hot and sticky summer, we were so relieved for a beautiful day with the perfect temperature and not a cloud in the sky. Thanks to some recent rain, Loose Park was greener than ever and we had more than enough beautiful roses for a garden ceremony. Jenn started her day at the downtown Skyline Salon with her lovely bridesmaids for hair, make-up, and a light lunch.

Mollie’s wedding day was a huge milestone. For Kelly and Mollie it will be the day that they started their union together and will be celebrated yearly as they grow and love together for many many years. For me, it marked the start of my new life. I met Mollie at a Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show one week after landing in Kansas City. I was brand new to the area and Mollie’s wedding was the first date I booked. I thank this beautiful couple daily for taking a chance on the newcomer as I could not have asked for more wonderful people to share my work with.
